Whole Grains Can Help Eliminate Belly Fat?
A recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that calorie-controlled diet that contains lots of whole grains can eliminate the extra fat in the waist section of people who are obese.
The study participants who ate whole grains (other than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, three servings of low fat dairy products, and two servings of meat, fish, or poultry) lost more weight from the abdomen than the other group ate the same diet, but with grains that have been mashed.
"Eating a diet rich in whole grains while reducing refined carbohydrates that are going to change glucose and insulin response, and easier to move the stored fats," said one researcher, Penny Kris-Etherton, PhD, RD, a professor in the field of science nutrition at Penn State University.
"Visceral fat is more active in the metabolic and easier to remove than subcutaneous fat, especially if you have lots and the right conditions are met, such as one of the conditions in our study."
